Our Why! Media for Good.
Greenwave Media is changing the way we think about video: our impact initiative branch is pioneering a new funding model for high quality promotional content for social and environmental actors. We are tapping into a variety of funding sources from corporate social investment (CSI) to individual donors to internal resources, to create beautiful promotional material for social and environmental enterprises, NGOs and NPOs.
To date, we have mainly focussed on eco-tourism and other sustainably minded businesses as clients, but are now pivotting more towards using our videography and production skillset in the impact initiative space. We are initially looking for local South African clients who we believe have a story to tell, who have a tangible impact on either human society or the natural environment, and who could benefit from high-quality promotional content. We tailor our videos to fit these clients exact needs- which visual elements and messages they wish to share, what their call-to-action is (be that direct donations, volunteer time or longer-term corporate funding partners), and what budget they are working with.
Video is a hugely valuable resource for initiatives to promote themelves and share their stories, be that on their websites or through regular social media posts. Our goal is to use media as a bridge, inspiring corporate businesses to fund impact initatives aligned with their brand.
In addition, we are working on a project called ‘Impact Influencers’. We wish to use the often-abused power of social media to sell ideas and impact initiatives to the world, instead of selling just another product that no one really needs. We will partner with (initially local) micro-influencers. We will help select well-aligned impact initiatives that they can work with, in a relationship similar to brand ambassadorship. Their online presence and persona will become affiliated with this impact initiative, promoting it so that it becomes more embedded in the minds of their community. This will increase the awareness and reach of the initiative and will help the Impact Influencer build their personal brand based on their selected good cause.
Greenwave Media was started by Blake Greenwood in 2023 alongside investor Anton De Waal. In 2024 Oscar Maeyer joined as Sustainability Director to help move the business towards impact initiative videography and partnerships. Patrick Barry also joined in 2024 as an internal Videographer and Editor. After two years of achitecture, he decided to persue his passion of film making and is working with Greenwave alongside his BA studies in Motion Picture Medium.
We believe that civil society (in the form of impact initiatives) in South Africa plays an incredibly important role in the direction the country takes. They serve as a creative force and inspiration. If we as Greenwave can succesfully tell their stories through videography, we will have played our role in that process, amplifying important messages whilst inspiring concious action. Our collective imagination is one of our greatest and most beautiful assets: we wish to nurture that.
